They embody the classic Batman, not this new cinematic, voice changing, etc type and that’s not to say they aren’t great, the new ones are just different. Game Night

Summary

I love this movie!!! I had Movie Pass, don’t we miss that option, and saw this movie 7 times in theaters (3 of those times were with other people). I have the giant wall hanging poster in my guest room. It stars Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams, along with Kyle Chandler, Sharon Horgan, Billy Magnussen, Lamorne Morris, Kylie Bunbury, Jesse Plemons, and more. This was co-written and co-directed by John Francis Daley who you might remember as Sweets in Bones, his dad is the bartender in the movie. So for this episode the tables were turned and I was one of the ones that had to drink more and drink during the recording.

The Harvey Wallbanger (liquor.com):

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 ounces vodka
  • 1/2 ounce Galliano L’Autentico liqueur
  • 3 ounces orange juice, freshly squeezed
  • Garnish: orange slice
  • Garnish: maraschino cherry

Directions

  1. Fill a tall glass with ice, then add the vodka and orange juice and stir.
  2. Float the Galliano on top.
  3. Garnish with a skewered orange slice and maraschino cherry.

Game Night Drinking Game (reeldrinkinggames.com and drunkenme.com):

Drink every time:

  • The words “Game Night” “Clue” or “Brooks” are said
  • A clue is solved
  • There is tilt shift photography as a transition scene
  • Michelle hooking up with a celebrity is mentioned
  • Someone makes a phone call
  • Gary appears
  • Sperm/Fertility is mentioned
  • When anyone drinks
  • Whenever there is a plot twist

Finish your drink:

  • They find Brooks
  • Another game night begins

CODA

Summary

This week’s episode is pretty special, most of the time when my guests choose a film or a tv show, it’s picked because they enjoy it or they’ve been wanting to check it out. My friend that is on here this week is actually a CODA, Child of Deaf Adults, her sister is also deaf, so this film was a lot closer to her than others we’ve done. The film was released in August of 2021 and is available to stream on Apple TV+, Apple bought the distribution rights for a record (at the time) $25 million after premiering at Sundance. It went on to win Best Motion Picture of the Year (the first movie produced by a streaming service to win Best Picture), Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role (Troy Kotsur became the first deaf actor to win an Oscar), and Best Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars. The film was written and directed by Sian Heder (it was adapted from the French-Belgium film La Famille Bélier that was written by Victoria Bedos, Stanislas Carré de Malberg, Éric Lartigau, and Thomas Bidegain, and was directed by Éric Lartigau) and stars Marlee Matlin (first deaf actress to win Best Actress for Children of a Lesser God), Emilia Jones, Troy Kotsur, Daniel Durant, Ferdia Walsh-Peelo, and Eugenio Derbez. I highly recommend checking the film out, it was very well deserving of winning Best Picture.

CODA Cocktail (https://www.timeout.com/los-angeles/things-to-do/best-picture-nominee-cocktails-at-fannys):

Ingredients

  • 2 squirts saline tincture (5% salt:filtered water)
  • 1 tsp Mommenpop Seville Orange
  • 1 tsp Benedictine
  • 1/4 oz Varnelli Caffé Moka
  • 1/2 oz Giffard Banane du Bresil
  • 1 1/2 oz Fortaleza Tequila Blanco

Drinking Game (drinkwhen.ca):

  • Anyone says “Ruby”
  • Anyone sings
  • A song begins
  • You see fish
  • The family bickers

From Justin to Kelly: The 100th Episode

Summary

I know it’s been awhile since I have released an episode. There were two reasons for this, school was overwhelming along with work and I was waiting for my new theme song!!! I think the wait was worth it and I hope you agree. The new theme song is called “My Best Thinkin'” with the music and lyrics by my friend Drew and sung by my friend Alex, you can check them out on Instagram at @alexanddrewmusic (also they are on my podcast as well, including this episode), so go check them out and give them a follow.

So for my 100th episode I wanted to do something to stand out and get some attention, I hope it works. I didn’t tell my friends what we were watching until we met up to record. I love Kelly Clarkson and her spirit brings me joy, so why not watch her first film that she starred in and that SHE HATES. It is available on Amazon Prime to rent, or you can buy a copy of the DVD on eBay or Amazon. While the film is not great, we had a great time celebrating and drinking as always. We drank sangria while we watched, but I have a recipe down below. Kelly, if you are reading this and are listening to the episode, I hope that you enjoy it and have fun listening, but also know that YOU ARE AMAZING and you will hear a confession or 2 (there might be one you don’t hear…yet).

Spring Break Cocktail:

 Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz Absolute Kurant Vodka
  • 1/2 oz Lychee Liqueur
  • 3-4 Club Soda

Directions

  1. Add ice to glass.
  2. Add Kurant Vodka, then Lychee Liqueur, and fill with club soda.
  3. Stir well.

Drinking Rules (https://www.tumblr.com/filmdrunkies):

The Rules (and I recommend only choosing 2 or 3)…

  1. Drink whenever they says either ‘Justin’ or ‘Kelly.’
  2. Drink whenever someone starts to sing.
  3. Drink whenever someone says ‘Spring Break.’
  4. Drink whenever someone says ‘Florida’ or ‘Ft. Lauderdale.’
  5. Drink whenever the movie is terrible.
  6. Drink whenever you see a beach ball.
  7. Drink whenever someone on screen is drinking, but it’s specified that it is not alcoholic.
  8. Drink whenever the movie is absurd (i.e. some broke college kid is racing a hover craft).
  9. Drink whenever there is evidence of the year 2003.
  10. Drink whenever Kelly’s Texas accent is readily apparent.
  11. Drink whenever Justin is sexually repressed.
  12. Drink whenever the movie is too gay to function.
  13. Take a shot for the love duet. (*shudder*)
  14. Drink for every watch tower you see.
  15. Drink whenever Justin’s nameless friend is shirtless.

  • Grape Jello prepared

  • 12 oz. Lemon Lime Soda
  • 1 tbsp Grenadine

How I Met Your Mother: Pilot (S1E1) vs How I Met Your Father: Pilot (S1E1)

Summary

Have you had a chance to check out the Hulu original show How I Met Your Father yet? Well, I can’t speak for everyone, but I really enjoyed it. I think that Hilary Duff and the rest of the cast do a great job. With all of that said, I still really enjoy the OG, How I Met Your Mother. When I went to New York City several years ago, I made sure that I went to McGee’s Pub, which is the bar that inspired McLaren’s on the show. Oddly enough (please don’t judge), this was actually the best food I had while visiting and I just got nachos. I mention this bar because they have 14 cocktails that you can choose from that are inspired by the show, everything from The Naked Man to The Slutty Pumpkin. I know while there I had The Slutty Pumpkin, but I can’t remember what else I got.

Wait For It…… (from McGee’s Pub):

Ingredients

  • Angel’s Envy Bourbon
  • St. Germain
  • Canton Ginger Liqueur
  • Grapefruit Juice

*Sadly I do not know the specific ounces, so have fun.

Drinking Game (drinkwiki.com):

Drink when…

  • Ted’s kids are shown
  • The whole group is sitting at their usual bar table
  • Ranjit (cab driver) makes an appearance
  • There’s a successful high five
  • Ted has a voice over
  • Robin is Canadian (or any Canada reference)
  • Barney hits on a girl or runs a “play”
  • Lily blabs/can’t keep a secret
  • Marshall mentions law or law school

Bonus drinks

  • “Legendary”
  • “Suit-up”
  • “Have you met… ___ ?”

Queens: 1999 (S1E1)

Summary

If you haven’t yet watched Queens on ABC (Hulu), stop what you’re doing right now and watch it! It is so good! Those of us that grew up in the TRL days will appreciate it more, but I think you will love it regardless. Queens is has Brandy, it has Eve, it has Naturi Naughton (3LW), and it has Nadine Velasquez as the Nasty Bitches!!!! They were a all female rap group in the 90s and it shows them now in their 40s after another rapper samples their big hit song “Nasty Girl”. It’s been my favorite new series this season and I can’t wait to see where the show goes, its already had some twists. The best part of this show, besides the fact that Brandy is an amazing rapper, is that you can then go to iTunes or Spotify or wherever you listen to music and play the songs from the show! I need these four amazing women, and the talented Pepi Sonuga (‘Lil Muffin) to go on tour together, hopefully the show hooks me up with backstage passes.

Queens Cocktail (diffordsguide.com):

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz Dry Gin
  • 1/2 oz Noilly Prat Extra Dry
  • 3/4 oz Martini Rosso Sweet Vermouth
  • 1 oz Pineapple Juice (fresh pressed)

Directions

  1. Shake all ingredients with ice.
  2. Fine strain into chilled coupe glass.
  3. Garnish with pineapple wedge on rim.

Drinking Game:

Drink when…

  • The Nasty Bitches perform.
  • A little bit of the real Eve comes out.
  • If you can spot Eve’s paw print tat.
  • Reference to something real.
  • Feel like your high school self, very nostalgic.

Finish your drink when…

  • There is a flashback.
